The director of COSSAC is John Fox who is Professor of Professor of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. John's co-investigator is David Glasspool, Senior Research Fellow in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh.

The IRC is made up of groups from three universities:

• An engineering group based at the University of Oxford. focusing on "next generation" technologies which can be used for clinical (and non-clinical) applications;
• A clinical group at UCL Medical School based at the Royal Free Hospital;
• A cognitive science group in the School of Informatics at Edinburgh University.
